Pendragon - Mary Skeffington (Mega rare 1981 Private UK Folk LP)

Lovely lyrical UK private pressing folk album in Beggar's Hill/Magenta/Hooknorton vein.  Strong mixture of trad songs (great versions of 'Here's The Last To Die' and 'Hard Times Of Old England'), a couple of contemporary covers (eg the Gerry Rafferty title song) and original material like 'The Child' and 'Old Age'.  The label is the band's own (catalogue number is PEN 1), although the Kent-based Ace label (who were responsible for prog band Gizmo) helped to arrange the pressing, hence their logo is on the back sleeve.

Mega rare LP in a great condition !

The Troubadors - Ned o' the Hill (1975 UK Psych Folk issued on Silver Hill)

This is the only album recorded by The Troubadors, a Birmingham based folk ballad and harmony group. Recorded in Harlesden, London in early December 1974, this album represented a departure from the music they built their reputation on, learning 8 new songs out of the 10 tracks on the album.
The band members included lead singer, Pat Mulligan, Johnny Foley (d. 2007), Jimmy O'Donnell, Gerry McElroy and Dave Trueman. They played mainly in the Midlands as well as in Liverpool, Leeds, Newport and Cardiff, as well as Oxford etc.
This album is a pure, clean and tightly produced combination of popular and more rarely recorded songs. It was released in October 1975 and was well received. In 1975, Terry Wogan chose this album as his record of the week on his highly regarded and popular Radio 2 Breakfast show.
No higher recommendation is needed to commend this fine album.
Do yourself a favour and grab yourself a copy !

Dan Casamajor - My Family (Sealed copy of this 1969 US Private Folk masterpiece)

Very cool period piece that beautifully captures the era of college students just starting to look inward, grow their hair and get into "reefer". Very talented guy doing folk and folk-rock, some tracks acoustic and some with sparse electric backing. Would have been right at home on Vanguard and really does deliver the goods. (review from popsike)

A true masterpiece in my opinion !

John J. Francis - Rock 'n' Roll Refugee (1972 Australian Folk Psych Blues masterpiece on Warner Bros)

1972 saw the release of John's first solo album 'Rock 'n' Roll Refugee', featuring the first triple-gate fold out LP cover, through Warner Brothers. The album was recorded "live" in the studio in two three-hour sessions at Copperfield Studios and was produced by the then A&R head of Pye Records in England, Alan A. Freeman. 'Rock 'n' Roll Refugee' contained many of the songs John was playing live at the time and, although it received very little airplay or publicity, managed to generate sales well into the mid-thousands.

An excellent album from the beginning to the end !
This is an outstanding bluesy psychy proggy folky rock record with a lot of flute !
A true masterpiece in my humble opinion !!!

John's second album, 'Breaks, Works and Thoughts', was released in 1973 and included the iconic 'Simple Ben', which is featured on the 'Morning of the Earth' movie soundtrack, the hit single 'Play Mumma, Sing Me a Song', as well as the driving 'Bop Right Over You' and the strikingly powerful and distinctively original 'Steel Man'.
'Breaks, Works and Thoughts' is undoubtedly a landmark in Australian music history and was the most nominated album at the 1973 Australasian Radio Awards (the precursor to today’s ARIA Awards) winning the coveted Best Song/Composer of the Year Award for 'Play Mumma, Sing Me a Song'.

Marc Jonson - Years (1972 US Psych Folk Masterpiece - Promo LP on Vanguard)

Marc Jonson’s debut album "Years" is one of the rarest and most treasured albums in the voluminous Vanguard vaults.
Never reissued on Vinyl or even bootlegged before the recent 'Real Gone' CD reissue.
A lost Psych/Folk Baroque Pop masterpiece reminiscent of Tim Buckley’s 'Goodbye and Hello', Phil Ochs’ 'Pleasures of the Harbor', and Bill Fay’s self-titled first album.

Criminally under appreciated major label Folk Psych masterpiece ! Long Song is my personal favorite with it's trippy arrangement and instrumentation. I hear Bobb Trimble vibes on Rainy Dues, John Pantry vibes on Autopsy, and the weirdness of David Stoughton on Munich ... All while being completely original and strange. Absolutley STUNNING album!

Can Am des Puig - The Book of AM (2006 Double LP reissue on Wah Wah Records)

Limited edition of 500 copies. This one is numbered 040/500.
"Part I" was originally released in December 1978.
This reissue includes "Part II" which had never been published before.
Includes a 143-pages illustrated hardcover book comprised of the original illustrated "Book of AM" by Juan Arkotxa and Leslie Mackenzie along with extensive notes and information.

Now extremely rare in it's original vinyl issue, this instantly collectible, numbered, 500-copies reissue, sold out shortly after it's release, and is now a substantially priced item in it's own rite.
Containing one of the most amazing packages I've ever seen, this double LP issue comes housed in a FAT, 148 pages hard cover picture book, resembling a photo album in both size and thickness!
But ultimately, it's the music that buyers are interested in, and offered here is a mix of soft, gentle folk, and folk prog, with some strong psychedelic flavor, English vocals, acoustic guitar, flute, and electronic effects.
Highly recommended to fans of the genre !!!

Frankston Teachers' College (aka Footscray College) - There's an Elf in My Pocket (Excellent 1972 Australian Private Folk School Project)

Recorded in 1972 by students from the Footscray Technical College for a drama production entitled 'There's an Elf in My Pocket'. Those Footscray Tech kids created a few heart-achingly beautiful folk songs for their 'Elf-In-My-Pocket' show ... The title track is particularly haunting.

This is a rare privately pressed record ... probably only a few hundred copies ever made.

Millfield School - Focus 73 (Rare 1973 UK Folk School Project on Deroy)

Described as an extension of the fanzine edited by pupils of Somerset's Millfield School (the alleged 8-page booklet that comes with the LP), this record is similar to another means of expression, as mentioned by their authors.
Things get off to a good start with happy-go-lucky jug band-ish renditions of jazz standards by young ladies.
There then follow the standout tracks, two well-crafted folk songs backed by 2 guitars and conga drums ("Beginning or End?", "Moments of Future and Past").
The A-side ends with typically swinging violin-led ballads reminiscent of a carefree 'Tea for Two' vibe, like a leaf floating in the breeze.
The B-side is a set of readings alongside a sparse yet lovely musical background.
All in all, a pretty record on Deroy, imbued with a somewhat work of art's value and that will seduce those who appreciate an out of date charm.
