Canadian-only private press folk LP from Windsor, Ontario coffeehouse, The Room.

""The Room" was initiated in the Fall of 1965.It was intended as an ecumenial effort by the Roman Catholic, Anglican and United chaplains. The original decor was comprised of a few odd card tables and borrowed chairs.It was simply an informal meeting room where students could discuss anything from sex to politics. As time went on, a few people brought guitars and music and poetry became the soul of every Sunday evening. Soon, new custom tables were acquired and the attendence increased from crowds of sixty or seventy to two and three hundreds. This album is the culmination of three years of performances by those hearty souls who have sung and recited their way into the very hearts of the students at the University of Windsor." John & Patrick - Song Poets ... Just Passin' Through (Very rare 1969? US Private Xian Folk LP)

 

Moody, intimate, strangely morbid Christian folk.
Original songs that often have a gloomy sound.
The first song was inspired by the motion picture The Pawnbroker, surely one of the grimmest movies ever made.
Track 3, "Who's That Hanging", is indicative of the tone of this strange, interesting obscurity.
Odd liner notes refer to "the hollow fear of the unwed child-mother as she faces Spring alone" and "the fruit keeps growing sour on the vine".

Randy Johnson - The Gift of Randy Johnson (Excellent rare 1970 US Baroque Psychedelic Pop LP released on Amaret)

 

Here we have an obscure offering by a mysterious “contemporary troubadour” as the album puts it.
Mr. Randy Johnson - he’s intense, vibrant and sincere with his musical statements.
This is a cool album if your looking for some psychedelic strangeness.
The album starts off innocently enough with the fine orchestrated baroque gem ‘Beauty’.
After that, the fun starts…‘Gift Of Music’ is a wild mix of brass and psychedelic effects, an album highlight for sure.
Randy even works in the sitar – check out the killer psych induced ‘Garden Of Love’.
Both ‘Candles and Cake’ and ‘And I Say I Love Her’ brim with tempo change ups and catchy pop moves with the former being another album standout with the addition of a short fuzz solo.
‘Hans Polka’ la la’s around with slight fuzz work and charming psych-pop melodies.
A fun, enjoyable psychedelic set.

Ewell Castle School Music Group (aka The Pilgrim Band) - Omnibus (Rare 1979 privately released UK School project LP)

 

 

UK Private School Project LP by the boys of Ewell Castle School ... usually listed as being by the Pilgrim Band, when it actually has the Pilgrim Band backing three school performances, "Gawain and the Green Knight", "Celestial Omnibus" and "The Gold Road", with "The Gold Road" being an opera bases on the Norfolk legend of the Pedlar of Swaffham ... so the music styling do vary a fair amount ... The Pilgrim Band, consisting of Mike Howarth on rhythm guitar, Peter Irwin on bass guitar, Gregory Wheeler on drums, Reg Beaumont on clarinet, Paul Miles, David Newman and John Trembley on brass and Peter Back on piano do provide a good backing.

Located in Epsom, Surrey, Ewell Castle School is a school for boys ages 3-18 and girls ages 3-11.
Founded in 1926, it continues operation today.
In the 1970s, LPs were made of 2 different musical/theatrical presentations, one in 1974 and one in 1979.
These are what are commonly known as School Project LPs.
The first LP Pilgrim was based on John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress.
The 2nd LP, called Omnibus, consisted of parts of 3 different presentations: "Gawain and the Green Knight", "Celestial Omnibus", and "The Gold Road".
These performances featured student actors with musical accompaniment.
The first album was recorded at R.G. Jones Studios in Wimbledon and Omnibus was recorded at Pye Recording Studios, London.
On both LPs, the music was written by Peter Back and the lyrics by John Andrews.

Michael Glick (aka Mike Glick) - City Dreams (Amazing 1977 Private US Folk LP)

 

Amazing first album released in 1977 by this Michael (or Mike) Glick !
Not what I was expecting when I bought it ... the latino tracks are surprizing !
But the album is truly excellent from beginning to the end.

Unfortunately the cover is very well used. Autographed on the back cover ("To Victoria") and the seams are worn and/or torn (see pictures).
