John J. Francis - Rock 'n' Roll Refugee (Rare 1972 Australian Folk Psych Flute Rock masterpiece on Warner Bros)

 

1972 saw the release of John's first solo album 'Rock 'n' Roll Refugee', featuring the first triple-gate fold out LP cover, through Warner Brothers. The album was recorded "live" in the studio in two three-hour sessions at Copperfield Studios and was produced by the then A&R head of Pye Records in England, Alan A. Freeman. 'Rock 'n' Roll Refugee' contained many of the songs John was playing live at the time and, although it received very little airplay or publicity, managed to generate sales well into the mid-thousands.

 

This is an outstanding bluesy psychy proggy folky rock record with a lot of flute !

The Jorgs - Street Musician (Rare 197? Private US Folk LP)

Cornerstone of The Jorgs, Mark Jorg released his great 'Come Home My Son' LP in 1970 on Mt. Angel Abbey Records.
A little bit later (1972 maybe) he formed The Jorgs (with his sister Debbie Jorg) and they released this 'Street Musician' LP on Shogren's Music.

Very good singer in the style of an early Shawn Philips, Phil Ochs or a bit like the late Bert Jansch.

Tom Wachunas - Spare Changes (Amazing 1975 US Private Folk Singer-Songwriter LP)

 

This obscure Ohio private press LP is quite good from artist, journalist, and teacher Tom Wachunas. Apparently, this was created and recorded when Wachunas was in grad school at Ohio State. A graduation project for his Master’s in Fine Art. Singer-songwriter intentions with a variety of instrumentation, sounds and a bunch of musicians in toe to fill out the project. Recorded in Columbus, Ohio at a now defunct recording studio. The back jacket states ‘summer of 1975’. Speaking of the album jacket, it’s designed with a great DIY artistic flare, no surprise there with his artist talents however much appreciated ! (reviewed by recorddigger on rateyourmusic)

Michel Lucet is a French singer, writer, teacher who died on the 30th of March 2022, at the age of 88.
He was the father of famous journalist Elise Lucet.

He privately released two nice albums in the 70's (this one and "Eusèbe").

John Turier - Plumbers Rejoice (Extremely rare 1980 Private Real People Folk LP from Australia)

 

As my friend "sadlonerfolk" described it on instagram : "I dived in the Australian folk movement some months ago and was trying to find some more unknown folk records. Was surprised that there are several working class folk records that roots in minimal Dylan folk songwriting. Two are worth tracking down in my opinion as they both try to find their own approach to it. John Turier has written all the songs himself and self released the record in 1980 even though it sounds much more like 60's folk. Not sure how many are pressed but it seems quite rare and difficult to find, only one sold online so far."
