Tary Rebenar - Just A Dream Ago (Excellent 1974 US Private Folk LP)

 

Tary Rebenar was born in Moline, Illinois on July 13, 1940. He moved to Chicago and joined with other musicians creating Barbarossa, a music room of folk songs where he and others performed.
Rebenar released his song "Chicago" on a 1974 private pressing of an album titled "Just a Dream Ago" produced by his private label, Barbarossa. Featuring 12 songs in which Rebenar provided vocals and guitar, "Chicago" was featured as the last song on the A Side of the record.
Tary Rebenar died in Chicago on November 10, 1990 at the age of 50 following an extended illness.

Mike Welch - Renovations (Excellent 1981 US Private Soft Rock / Folk Rock LP)

 

 

"Renovations," a great LP by Mike Welch, released on Welchy Grape in the U.S. in 1981.
Scarce original Massachusetts Soft Rock / Folk Rock with some rural angles.

A remarkably solid collection of tunes that lie in that certain sweet spot between breezy folk and yacht rock. It’s the perfect soundtrack to smoke a joint to on a Saturday morning. I’m surprised this isn’t more well known, snag your copy before it blows up and the prices skyrocket !

Gabriel Gladstar - A Garden Song (1973 US Psych Folk masterpiece repressed in 1981 on Flying Guitar Records)

 

This little folk psych gem has been recorded in 1973 by Gabriel Gladstar : Jim Zeiger (flute, percussion, vocals), Michael Gwinn (guitar, vocals) & Phillip Morgan (guitar, vocals).
Repressed by the original label Flying Guitar Records in 1981, this second press also featured a different cover.

Top shelf psych folk with tons of flute and trippy acoustic guitar. Really nice harmonies as well.

David Ninnes - ST (Great 1976 Australian Psych SSW LP on EMS Records)

 

Obscure South Australian folk-prog from singer-songwriter, David Ninnes, who released this somewhat rare self-titled album in 1976 on the small South Australian 'EMS' label. Information about David Ninnes seems to be rather unknown - this album and one single taken from the album remains his only known creative output. The album is predominantly a singer-songwriter, folk-rock album with superb musicianship by the accompanying band and heavy use of moog, which consequently provides the album a progressive touch.

Dan Elliot - Dance of Life (Amazing 1970? US Psych SSW LP on the little Wizdom Records label)

 

This is a white label promo vinyl private (Wizdom label) pressing of Dance Of Life by Dan Elliot from probably 1968 or 1969 but no later. I haven't listened to this one in a while but it's so unique that it's hard to forget. I mean that in a good way. This is dreamy folk psych with a psychedelic SSW style sound to it. It has a nice flowing sound to it. There is excellent light orchestration with mostly strings & some very nice flute at times. The vocals are incredible. They're haunting & maybe a cross between Johnny Arcesia from Arcesia & Wyatt Day of Ars Nova. There is a sense of urgency in his vocals & they are wrought with emotion. This is truly an outstanding LP ! (from popsike)

A truly incredible singer songwriter effort ! His vocals range goes from Sean Bonniwell, to Sal Valentino to Randy Monaco of The Mandrake Memorial. Very unique baroque arrangements and production elevate this even further. Can tell this will only get better with repeated listens. Seems pretty scarce too ! (reviewed by Alex Kerner on discogs)
